Resistance wall. (un)bearing pain
Olga Shamshura
Metal, plaster, drawing
A model of a children's room in a five-story, six-section brick residential building with 119 apartments, part of the 89 series (114-89-79), designed by Belgospromproject in 1980 for construction in the Republic of Belarus. Years of residence in this apartment: 1994–2007.
My project was born from an association with a structural system and a sense of fragmentation following events since 2020. Each year inflicted wounds on both body and soul. (Un)Bearing Pain is one of a series of works that catalog these experiences.
What appears as a detailed design of an architectural object is simultaneously a self-portrait and a record of trauma—a depiction of the destruction of what once seemed unshakable, the foundation upon which visions of the future were built.
